MapQuest

MapQuest is an online mapping and directions platform that provides driving directions, maps, traffic data, and local business information. When a business is listed on MapQuest, its name, address, phone number, and other key details can appear to users who search for places or plan routes through the MapQuest website and apps.

From a local SEO perspective, MapQuest is an additional mapping-based citation that helps support NAP consistency and can drive incremental traffic from users who still rely on MapQuest for directions and local lookups.

MapQuest currently partners with Yext and other data providers to manage business listings. This means that claiming or adding a listing typically happens through a Yext-powered workflow rather than directly through a standalone MapQuest business dashboard.

For Existing Listings...

Before you start

Have the following ready:

  • Your official business name, address, and phone number
  • Your website URL
  • Access to email and phone numbers that may be used for verification

Step 1: Check your existing listing on MapQuest

  1. Go to https://www.mapquest.com/.
  2. Use the search box to enter your business name and location (city or ZIP code).
  3. Look through the search results to see if your business already appears as a place on MapQuest.
  4. Note how your business information is displayed (name, address, phone) and any obvious errors.

Step 2: Go to the MapQuest business listings manager (Yext page)

  1. Open a new tab and go to the MapQuest/Yext business listings manager page:
    https://listings.mapquest.com/pl/mapquest-claims/index.html
  2. You will be directed to a Yext-powered page that allows you to scan and manage listings for MapQuest and other directories.

Step 3: Scan for your business and review results

  1. Enter your business name and phone number (and any additional requested information) into the scan form.
  2. Run the scan to see what MapQuest and other partner sites have on file for your business.
  3. Review the results to locate your existing MapQuest listing and check its status.

Step 4: Choose how to claim and correct your listing

  1. Follow the prompts from Yext/MapQuest to claim or fix your listing. Options may include:
    • Creating a Yext account and using a plan to manage listings across multiple sites
    • Using any available free or basic tools to correct your MapQuest listing
  2. Provide any verification information requested in order to prove you are authorized to manage the business.

Step 5: Confirm your MapQuest data is updated

  1. After you make changes through the Yext/MapQuest interface, allow time for updates to propagate.
  2. Return to MapQuest and search for your business again to confirm that your name, address, and phone number are correct.

Note: Because MapQuest relies on partners for listing management, your control may be limited without using a broader listings management plan. Check the options carefully and choose what makes sense for your budget and overall citation strategy.

For New Listings...

Use these steps if your business does not appear on MapQuest at all.

Step 1: Confirm that your business is not listed

  1. Go to https://www.mapquest.com/.
  2. Search for your business name and location.
  3. If you do not see your business listed, you can proceed with the MapQuest/Yext flow to add it.

Step 2: Open the MapQuest listings manager (Yext) page

  1. Visit https://listings.mapquest.com/pl/mapquest-claims/index.html.
  2. This page is powered by Yext and is used for adding and managing MapQuest business listings along with other directories.

Step 3: Start the scan and setup

  1. Enter your business name, phone number, and any other requested information.
  2. Run the scan to confirm that your business is not already present in the MapQuest/Yext network.

Step 4: Add your business details

  1. Follow the on-screen steps to add your business, including:
    • Business name (brand name only)
    • Address or service area
    • Phone number
    • Website URL
    • Category and other core details
  2. Review any plan options presented (some features may be part of a paid Yext plan).

Step 5: Verify and wait for your listing to appear

  1. Complete any verification steps required by Yext/MapQuest to confirm your ownership or authorization.
  2. Allow time for your new business listing to be pushed to MapQuest.
  3. Later, go back to MapQuest and search for your business to make sure the listing appears with accurate NAP data.

How to Optimize Your MapQuest Listing

1. Focus on clean NAP data

  • Make sure your business name, address, and phone number on MapQuest match your website, Google Business Profile, and other major directories.
  • Correct any old or partial addresses that could confuse customers or navigation apps.

2. Align categories and basic details

  • Choose the most accurate category for your business when adding or updating your listing via the MapQuest/Yext interface.
  • Confirm that your website URL, hours, and other basic information are correct.

3. Maintain upstream data sources

  • Because MapQuest relies on data partners, also keep your information accurate on those upstream sources (for example, major aggregators and other key directories).
  • When you fix data at the source, it is more likely to stay consistent across all sites that consume that data.

4. Periodically re-check your listing

  • Search for your business on MapQuest a few times a year to confirm that your listing is still correct.
  • If something changes (such as a move or rebrand), update it via the MapQuest/Yext flow and verify that MapQuest reflects the changes.
