Bing Places for Business

Bing Places for Business is Microsoft’s free local business listing platform. When you add or claim your listing in Bing Places, your business information can appear in Bing search results and on Bing Maps, showing your name, address, phone number, website, hours, photos, and reviews to users searching for local services.

From a local SEO perspective, Bing Places acts as the main citation source in the Microsoft ecosystem. A properly set up listing helps you:

  • Control how your business appears on Bing Search and Bing Maps
  • Reinforce NAP (Name, Address, Phone) consistency across the web
  • Showcase photos, descriptions, services, and other key details
  • Collect and respond to customer reviews within the Bing environment

Any location-based or service-area business that wants visibility across Bing and Microsoft-powered search experiences should claim and optimize its Bing Places for Business listing.

For Existing Listings...

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • A Microsoft, Google, or Facebook account you will use to manage the listing
  • Your official business name, address, and phone number (NAP)
  • Website URL, main category, and business hours
  • Access to the business phone number, email, or mailbox for verification

Step 1: Sign in to Bing Places

  1. Go to https://www.bingplaces.com/.
  2. Click the option to sign in or get started.
  3. Log in with the account you want to use to manage your business (Microsoft, Google, or Facebook), or create a new account.

Step 2: Search for your existing business

  1. After signing in, choose the option to claim or add your business manually (instead of importing from Google, unless you prefer the import).
  2. Enter your business phone number, or your business name and location, into the search fields.
  3. Review the search results and look for your existing listing.
  4. Select your business from the list if it appears.

Step 3: Start the claim process

  1. Confirm that you are the owner or authorized representative when prompted.
  2. Review the listing details Bing has on file so you know what will need updating after verification.

Step 4: Verify your connection to the business

  1. Choose a verification method from the options offered for your business. Common methods include:
    • Phone call to the business phone number
    • Email to a business email address
    • Postcard mailed to the business address with a PIN code
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete verification and enter any PIN you receive.

Step 5: Review and update your listing

  1. Once verified, go to your Bing Places dashboard and open your claimed listing.
  2. Update:
    • Business name (brand name only; no extra keywords)
    • Address and map pin placement
    • Phone number and website URL
    • Business categories and description
    • Hours, photos, and other details
  3. Save your changes. Your claimed Bing Places listing is now ready to maintain and optimize.

For New Listings...

Use these steps if your business does not already appear in Bing Places.

  1. Visit https://www.bingplaces.com/.
  2. Click the option to sign in or get started as a new user.
  3. Log in with your Microsoft, Google, or Facebook account, or create a new Microsoft account.

Step 2: Choose how to begin

  1. If offered, you can import your business details directly from Google Business Profile (recommended if your GBP is already set up correctly).
  2. Alternatively, choose the option to add or claim your business manually.

Step 3: Check for existing listings

  1. Enter your business phone number, or your business name and location, into the search fields.
  2. If you see an existing listing that is yours, follow the on-screen prompts to claim it instead of creating a duplicate.
  3. If Bing shows no matching listings, proceed to add a new business.

Step 4: Enter your business details

  1. Fill in your:
    • Business name (brand name only)
    • Address or service area, and verify the correct location on the map
    • Phone number
    • Website URL
    • Primary category (and any truly relevant additional categories)
    • Business hours
  2. Add a concise description and upload a few high-quality photos if prompted.

Step 5: Verify your listing

  1. Choose a verification method offered by Bing (phone, email, or postcard to your business address).
  2. Complete the verification steps and enter any PIN provided.
  3. After verification, your new listing will be eligible to show in Bing Search and Bing Maps, and you can manage it from the Bing Places dashboard.
